Three-dimensional PYP Curriculum Model
KNOWLEDGE - UNDERSTANDING - SKILLS The PYP curriculum at Stonehill is designed as a three-dimensional model which recognizes the importance of knowledge, skills and conceptual understandings. These three dimensions underpin every unit of inquiry (transdisciplinary or subject-specific) and are considered when assessing learners’ development and progress. Reporting also acknowledges and reveals learners’ progress in these three areas, development of conceptual understanding, their knowledge of critical content, and their mastery of key skills. In order to help our learners succeed in the three dimensions of the PYP curriculum, all inquiries at Stonehill are conceptual: -Concepts drive the learning -We focus on big ideas of importance that are relevant and transferable -We promote connections across the curriculum -We challenge all learners -We focus on WHY and HOW of learning -We provide the ‘SO WHAT’ for students making their learning relevant and meaningful -We ensure skills are embedded as a part of the learning process -We promote collaboration -We promote critical thinking, problem solving and innovation -We build on student’s ideas, questions, theories and interests Zita Joyce PYP Coordinator |
