Our year-long unit on How we express ourselves set the stage for P5’s inquiry into what play looks like, sounds like and feels like in their lives. The learners and teachers added photos and videos to the P5L padlet wall and P5B padlet wall showing that play could mean anything from dressing up like batman, cuddling your cat, jumping on a trampoline, quietly meditating or reading a book under a tree. During our Zoom sessions, our P5 learners were able to start to break apart the central idea: Diverse Interactions Foster Connection and Action. We engaged with the different posts and connected with the concept of honouring diversity by being open-minded and accepting of each other. Through the year we will be coming back to this unit to make further connections. As an introduction to the 6+1 Traits of Writing, the learners had to list ideas and then choose a favourite idea to write about. Some learners were able to present their writing and received TAG feed forward from their peers - T: Tell us something you liked, A: Ask a question and G: Give a suggestion. As we move into our new unit of inquiry Who we are, some of our teachers made videos of their daily routines, provoking the learners into thinking about their own daily routines and the importance of developing and maintaining healthy habits. Our discussions this week will centre around the choices we make and how they affect our wellbeing. As the learners add their own photos and videos, sort through and categorise the padlet additions by our diverse community, they will continue to post questions on Google Jamboard. Through the unit, we hope to find community experts to guide our learners through their questions, as they delve deeper into the central idea that personal well being depends on a complex balance of interconnected factors.
