Hopes and Dreams
Thank you, to all the parents who participated in our first learning conference of the school year. Hopes and dreams provided our teachers with vital information about your child. The teachers will now use this information to tailor the programme to your child’s needs and interests. Toddle Please get in touch with me, if you would like to have a buddy in your learning journey. [email protected]
Tutor training We are very aware that some families have hired a tutor to help their child/en with remote and distance learning. We would like to offer your tutor some support as our processes are quite different from the other schools. Should you wish to sign your tutor up for sessions, please let me know. As soon as we have names, we will begin sessions. [email protected] Routine, routine, routine Primary-aged children thrive on routine. On behalf of your child, please develop a school routine and stick to it as best you can. The same table, in the same room, away from siblings who are also online, ensure they are set up for success. We proved last year that we deliver a significantly high standard programme and we want every child to have the best opportunities for success.
Grading and standards As many of you are aware from my emails and messages through The Tiger last year, we have suspended all grading during remote and distance learning due to our concerns about authenticity and reliability. Teachers have written solid narratives that express student growth and needs. We have increased the number of learning conferences.
As a part of getting back to normal, we have begun a conversation within the staff about aligning our assessment practices and grading tools with the constructivist nature of the PYP. The alternatives we are looking at include the student in the process and developing an assessment capable community, meaning, we will be taking you along with us on this journey. It is an exciting time and one where we can really involve our students and their families in the learning process. Read, read, read a book! Have a lovely fortnight, Karen Crooke Primary School Principal |
