How We Express Ourselves: Launching Our Unit With Play!
The P6 students are excited to share that they have had a successful launch of their first unit under the transdisciplinary theme, How We Express Ourselves. The central idea of this unit was, ‘diverse interactions foster connection and action’. Their first line of inquiry was, "International mindedness requires a positively playful attitude to life and living with and amongst others’. To help the students better understand this line of inquiry, the teachers came up with fun and exciting provocations. The students were “provoked” through playful experiences such as the ‘Escape Room’, where they had to work together to solve puzzles. They also enjoyed exploring sounds and rhythms they could create using household items. They realized that boredom isn’t a bad thing and that they could use it as an opportunity to create something new and exciting from household objects! The students reflected on their experiences and shared their understanding of play. The IB Learner Profile attributes helped them collaborate and be successful.
Our fantastic learners broke out into small and focused, literacy groups everyday, between Monday and Thursday. During this time, they worked on spelling, reading, writing and grammar. Eileen (see below) went on a photography hunt and labelled her photos with adjectives. She then put them together to make a fun and colourful sentence. In the smaller literacy groups, the P6 learners used their senses to describe everyday objects.
